Sad News about BCK
We have some sad news about our firm.
BCK Lawyers will be winding up its practice.
Our firm is the latest victim of the economic downturn.
Everyone knows how tough things have been since the GFC. Unfortunately for us, at around the same time, the ATO chose to make us a test case when it planned to attack the structures of many accounting and legal firms. Although the firm was largely successful with that litigation, the costs of the negotiations and Court litigation over a 5 year period, were crippling. Combined with the GFC it was a perfect storm. Despite the hard work of partners and staff we haven't been able to work our way out of that situation.
Obviously it is sad when a firm that has operated for over 80 years in Townsville closes. Our concern is for our staff and clients. The firm has always prided itself on fostering a happy, family type working organisation. We are contacting our clients, and will help them to get legal advice elsewhere. It has been devastating news for our staff who have been so loyal and supportive, many of whom have been part of BCK for decades. Our longest serving staff member has been with us for almost 40 years. To give them the news has been incredibly difficult.
The firm will work with the Queensland Law Society to ensure that clients will be looked after and kept informed.
